Regular filter replacement keeps the air in your IONIQ 5 clean, ensures the air conditioning system operates efficiently, and prevents your windows from fogging up. In this guide, you will learn how to easily replace it yourself in just a few minutes.

Preparation

  • Vehicle safety: Make sure the vehicle is secured in Park (P), completely deactivated (ignition/system off), and the ventilation/air conditioning is switched off.
  • Protection & hygiene: Place a mat or cloth under the work area to catch falling dirt. Glasses and a dust mask protect you from falling dust and pollen. It is best to keep a vacuum cleaner ready to vacuum out the housing before installation.
  • Lighting: As the installation area is usually dark, we recommend a headlamp or flashlight for the best possible visibility.
  • Tools: No tools are required for the replacement.
  • Access: The filter is located in the frunk (front trunk) on the rear bulkhead. Fully open your vehicle's front bonnet / hood to gain unobstructed access.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open the frunk & remove the access panel
    Open your vehicle's front bonnet (hood). Depending on the model and frunk configuration, lift the small cover on the rear bulkhead (toward the Windscreen) or open the frunk tub to access the filter housing behind it.
  2. Open the filter housing
    The elongated, horizontal filter housing is now exposed. Gently press the two side retaining tabs (clips) on the housing cover together and remove the cover toward the front.
  3. Remove the old filter
    Carefully pull the old cabin air filter forward out of the compartment. Make sure no loose dirt or leaves fall into the ventilation duct.
  4. Insert the new filter
    Slide the new cabin air filter precisely into the housing compartment.
    ↔ Airflow: The arrows on the side of the filter must point down (toward the vehicle floor)!
    💡 Pro tip: Briefly vacuum out the compartment before inserting the new filter. This prevents old leaves from immediately causing noise in the blower when you turn on the ventilation!
  5. Close the housing & secure the frunk
    Reattach the housing cover until the side clips audibly and noticeably snap into place. Reattach the frunk cover and close the front bonnet.

Disposal instructions

To ensure that all materials from your filter change are recycled as effectively as possible and that the cycle remains closed, please dispose of them as follows:

  • Used filter: As the old filter is heavily contaminated with pollutants, particulate matter and soot, it should be disposed of in the general waste. Through thermal recovery in modern facilities, useful energy (electricity and district heating) is still extracted from it.
  • Shipping box: It’s best to put the grass paper box in the waste paper bin so that the fibres remain in the recycling cycle. Alternatively, you can dispose of it on your own garden compost heap.
  • Filter bag: The plastic-free pouch for your new EV-DOC filter is made of paper and should also be placed in the waste paper bin.
  • Labels & backing paper: You do not need to remove stickers from cardboard before putting it in the waste paper bin – they are automatically recycled along with the paper. However, if you are composting the cardboard, please remove the labels first. Individual labels and backing paper should be disposed of in the general waste because of the adhesive.
